X-treme Hoops

X-treme Hoops was founded in 2010.  During the past two years X-treme Hoops has grown significantly in size and reputation.  In only two years of existence, X-treme Hoops has won an impressive, sixty-nine out of one hundred and thirteen games, giving us a record of 69-44 and a winning percentage of 61 percent.  Our record is impressive considering that our kids barely knew their teammates’ last names, let alone where they were from when the team first started.  Our success is due in part to the fact that we have had an outstanding range of prospective players from as far south as Miami and as far north as West Palm Beach.  Our expansion has given more kids the opportunity to play the sport they love.  In two years, we have been home to over 30 kids and have participated in roughly 25 tournaments, two of which were tournaments that qualified the team for Nationals in both seasons. Qualifying for Nationals was a significant accomplishment that gave the players a boost of self-esteem.  I am proud to say that over 80 percent of the kids that played with X-treme Hoops returned for the second year, citing their reasons for returning as the opportunity to play basketball at a competitive level, their teammates’ camaraderie, and caring coaches.

A hallmark of the X-treme Hoops Club is our diversity.  X-treme Hoops has been home to kids from multiple backgrounds, ethnicities, and socioeconomic status. Those differences become insignificant once they have a common goal.  By the end of the season, you would think that these boys had known each other for years.  Their ability to adapt and accept one another for who they are says a lot about their character and upbringing.  Those are qualities that I, as a leader and advocate of the term “student athlete”, value in young men.  X-treme Hoops has given kids the opportunity to build friendships with one another and it has also taught them respect, responsibility and more importantly, how to be a complete individual.

None of this would be possible if it were not for two main components: my sponsors and my coaching staff. Both have gone above and beyond to support something that I have loved since I was young.  I have always wanted to have the opportunity to introduce basketball to less fortunate kids who wouldn’t have the chance to play the game without X-treme Hoops, as well as those who just love to play basketball.

In the near future I anticipate expanding our coaching staff to help run X-treme Hoops more effectively.  I would also like to eventually be able to run clinics for local YMCA’s or youth centers to gain more exposure.  Lastly, it is a big goal of mine to eventually be able to run my own top of the line facility and to host tournaments so that I may continue my passion of seeing kids being able to do what they love and enjoy.  Working with X-treme Hoops has given me the satisfaction of knowing that I have a part in changing their lives for the better.

I continue to make an effort to get our name out in the community.  I have successfully contacted a few sponsors, but continue to look for more.  It is my intention to try and develop additional relationships and gain more sponsorships for the 2012 season.

Sincerely,
